Parenting was never meant to be about getting it right

Learn, yes.  Perfection, absolutely not!

Parenting is Stressful. So much to figure out. It can be exhausting.

Children cannot do things for themselves. They are noisy. Always there and, yes, dependent on you for so much.

Parenting has gotten so complicated!

Constant messages of what to do. What not to do.  So confusing. I’m supposed to limit screentime, yet schoolwork is on devices. I want my kids to play outside, yet their friends are not nearby. They don’t want to go to school. Don’t want to go to bed. Seeing everyone’s perfect kids splattered in social media feels heavy.

Parenting experts on every podcast, news feed, social media. And they don’t agree. What makes them experts anyway? Let them spend a day in my shoes.

I just want my kids to be happy. I just want to get through the day and get some sleep. Everything has gotten so complicated.

Solutions to your parenting challenges are closer than you think. They are within you.

Yes, experts have information. Yet they do not have the understanding of your life. You are in it! Plus, you have felt connection with your children. Attunement. You have a measuring stick within you that is constantly detecting your situation.

The gap is your basic understanding of humans and how humans develop. You’ve fallen into the trap of believing that doing the right thing (as defined by someone else) is the answer. It’s a faulty approach that has hit every aspect of our living.

To the contrary, children develop naturally! We can influence the conditions in which they develop, just like tending a garden. After days of rain, no one looks at their flowers and says, ‘Stop pouting.’ When a big wind comes through, no one tells the trees “Pull yourself together.” Why do we do this with our children – and ourselves?

Humans are nature. Amazing, dynamic, ever-changing creatures of nature.

Our environment—‘society’—is changing so fast. Our internal biocomputer is having trouble keeping up.

Develop children who can function in the world they will encounter, not the one that parented you.

In this way, you and your children are similar. Set yourself up for healthy and enjoyable living in a constantly changing world. Get back on your growth trajectory so you can flourish and create a flourishing environment for your children.

Parenting experts will never agree. They each approach it from their angle, their lived experience. Hear it, sort it, and experiment with what fits your and your child’s stage of harmonized growth.

Energize your trajectory of growth. Your wellbeing is the environment that matters most.

Harmonized Growth Primer is a 5-week course presenting a framework for how humans work and your innate potential to figure things out. You are a dynamic work of nature, just like your kids. Stop living to someone else’s rules and find the curiosity from which all growth comes.

Mostly, she is an imperfect human processing difficult emotions that come naturally with hindsight from her decades of raising children, not trusting her instincts and intuition when it mattered most. Continuing on the path with compassion and courage.

Shelly founded the Institute for Systemic Growth, LLC as an alternative to the inefficient and often ineffective mental healthcare system. ISG provides programs and resources that guide and facilitate the natural growth process - through stress, dissonance, and confusion - that we have lost, individually and collectively, in our striving towards idealized expectations and standards in health, parenting, and leading. ISG programs put people in the driver's seat of their flourishing, accessing experts and services without acquiescing their expert knowledge of themselves. As we change our dynamic with dissonance – within us and between us - from one of defense and judgment to one of curiosity and exploration, harmonized growth flourishes from the inside out.
